Sustainability Made Simple

Hello, Sustainability!

Transitioning to a low-waste kitchen may seem like an intimidating task without proper guidance of where and how to reduce personal food waste. It may also feel impossible for those with busy schedules with little to no extra time for meal prepping. HelloFresh is a wonderful alternative to those seeking outside help for cost-effective, low waste meal planning.

The nutritional meal kit delivery service aims to “target a broken food system” by ensuring fresh food availability with sustainable packaging. The eco-friendly food delivery service was founded in late 2011 in Berlin, Germany, with the purpose of changing the way people eat; it provides fresh, sustainable and cost-effective meals to nearly seven million people across the globe and is established as the most popular meal kit in the world.

HelloFresh makes reducing food waste a top priority by creating fresh, pre-proportioned meals in order to lower the amount of over-purchasing from grocery stores. It has a carbon footprint that is 25% lower than meals made from store-bought groceries; the company wastes less than 1% of food in retail and distribution. All of the packaging comes in recyclable and compostable paper bags as well as recyclable insulating liners. HelloFresh is also partnered with Plastic Bank, a Canadian enterprise dedicated to reducing plastic waste, and has collected over 1.6 million pounds of plastic over the last three years alone.

The HelloFresh website allows customers to curate their desired meal and diet plan with all fresh food coming directly from a multitude of farming suppliers. The service offers six different recipe preferences to choose from, as well as customization of the plan size and the amount of recipes you will receive per week. The plans are flexible with dietary restrictions and honor time efficiency, with no meal taking more than an hour to prepare. There are over 50 menu and market items to ensure variety in meals and can cost as low as $23.00 a week.

HelloFresh is a low-stress way to support food waste reduction, all while still enjoying fresh and delicious meals without any guilt. The service has no contract, so you are able to try it for a week and see how it works with your personal lifestyle. Say hello to sustainability with this low-stress transition into a low-waste lifestyle!
